Leah and Mark Johnson offer a full line of equine services.  Mark is a AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier and certified equine chiropractor.  Leah trains, shows, and offers brokering for training clients.  Please email us or call for more information about services!

Mark has been a farrier for 15+ years.  He has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Farrier Technology along with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Sul Ross State University and is a certified Journeyman Farrier with the American Farriers Association.  He completed a farrier apprenticeship in England and in Scotland where he represented the American Farriers Association.  Mark currently has a full book of clients that include several show horse barns plus local horse owners.  He works closely with local veterinarians on foundered, navicular, and lamanitic horses.  He is also a certified Equine Chiropractor.  He is now able, not only to keep his client's horse's hooves in top condition, but to help their equine athletes stay in top physical shape. For prices and appointments please call and ask for Mark.  Most farrier work is now done here in Quitman at the farrier shop.

Leah is also a Sul Ross State University graduate, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science as well as a Master's degree in Agriculture (emphasis in equine exercise physiology).  She is began showing an AQHA mare in showmanship and western pleasure at age 9.  She got her first Arabian when she was 13 year old. That same year she also started giving riding lessons to both children and adults.  Leah trained her families Arabians and competed with them in everything from rodeo queens contest, open horse shows, class A Arabian shows and competative trail riding thoughout her high school years.  During college she got her first APHA gelding and soon afterwards began showing and training APHA horses, competing at her first APHA World show with two, two year olds in 1992, placing in the top ten in jr. western riding and in the two year old western pleasure claiming futurity. During college she earned money starting two year olds of all breeds under saddle.  Upon college graduation Leah began working for the USDA, while still training and showing horses part time.  In 1996, Leah started training horses and youth/amateur riders full time in Texas. Owners and riders have found success in all around competition riding western and english in AQHA and APHA shows.  Over the last few years she has phased out the horse program and now trains and shows ponies for the public.  Riding training is available for any breeds of ponies. Show training (halter and in hand performance classes) is available exclusively for American Shetland ponies and miniature horses. Shows are attended throughout the US. Please email with any questions concerning training, farrier, or chiropractic work.

L and M Equine Services consists of 15 acres and is set up primarily as a training facility although we do raise a few registered American Shetland ponies each year.  In 2002 a full service farrier shop was completed.  We also have a two stall shed row stallion barn and a large training barn with an outdoor arena and round pen.  The training barn has eight 6 x 12 stalls, five 12 x 12 stalls. All stalls allow the horses and ponies to see each other and outside which keeps them happy and well adjusted!
